Finalized Review and Recommendations on Department Chair Appointments

February 6, 2024

Dear Chicana & Chicano Studies Students, Faculty, and Staff:

Earlier this morning, I finalized and submitted to President Janine Davidson my recommendations and major findings from my review of the policies, processes, and procedures for the appointments of Department Chairs at MSU Denver, including the specific case of Dr. Adriana Nieto.  This review process was officially launched on December 14, 2023, by the Office of the Provost at the request of President Davidson and based on input we received during conversations with students, colleagues, and community members.

With the submission of my review, this stage of the process is now complete.  President Davidson will determine the next steps and course of action moving forward.  Because my review includes sensitive personnel information, out of respect for the privacy of all parties involved, I am not at liberty at this time to publicly disseminate it.

I am continuing to examine other concerns and recommendations on what support is needed to further strengthen the Chicana/o Studies Department, as noted in my December 14, 2023, email.  There should be more information on this support soon.  MSU Denver values the legacy of the Chicana/o Studies Department and recognizes the huge impact it has had on our community for more than 50 years.

Thank you, again, for your leadership and dedication to Chicana & Chicano Studies.

Sincerely,

Marie T. Mora, Ph.D.
