Do you oversee or support event planning on behalf of your department? If yes, then the MSU Denver Office of University Events wants YOU to join or send a representative to the Events Coalition. This Coalition strives to empower planners to execute high-quality events through professional development, campus-wide collaboration, resource sharing, and intentional calendaring to ensure every event gets their spotlight.

Professional Development opportunities in the Events Coalition educate the campus’ event planners on new industry trends and best practices from leading experts. For example, this month, the Events Coalition invited Jennifer Watson from the School of Hospitality to give a talk about Food Waste, Sustainability, and Local Catering Vendors. Next month, we’ll hear from the Destination Management team at Visit Denver.

Cross-Collaboration is a key aspect of the Events Coalition. The Coalition invites representatives involved in event planning to share their upcoming events and important details with the group. The monthly meeting is an opportunity for event planners to discuss their wins, challenges and everything in between to facilitate invaluable discussions about improving all aspects of events and how we can support each other.

Sharing Best Practices and Resources in the Events Coalition brings together knowledge from all over campus, inviting participants with a range of experiences, education and resources to share what makes their events run smoothest. The University Events team also shares any new protocols and policies for the good of the group.

Reducing event conflicts on campus enables students, faculty and staff to attend events without missing out on valuable information or experiences. The Events Coalition regularly reviews and discusses the internal events calendar to ensure that events with similar purposes, audiences or goals are not overlapping.
