Research Rookies (formerly Research Apprenticeship Program)

Goals:

The Research Rookies Program aims to introduce first- and second-year students to research and scholarly activity through a series of workshops. The workshops are designed to introduce students to fundamental research skills and to support them as they navigate the research process and develop skills that will help them be successful at MSU Denver and beyond.

Stipend: $2000 ($1000 each semester for the 2022-23 academic year)

Eligibility

  • Full-time MSU Denver first- or second-year undergraduate student
  • Student must be new to research / not have participated in undergraduate research

Program Requirements

  • Attend a program orientation meeting
  • Attend weekly URCS workshops in-person or online (10 total)
  • Shadow at least one research project (arranged by the program director)
  • Meet with an Academic Counselor at least once in the spring semester
  • Meet with a Career Counselor at least once in the spring semester
  • Meet with the URCS Program Director at least once in the spring semester
  • Attend the MSU Denver Undergraduate Research Conference in April

Workshops are designed to:

  • Build community
  • Explore the concept of research / scholarship
  • Develop fundamental research skills
  • Develop research comprehension and communication skills
  • Explore research in action
  • Learn how to find and secure research opportunities
  • Promote self-efficacy
