A photo of the Student Satellite

Near the front entrance of the CBUS Advising Center sits Rowdy’s Corner satellite. While it may look like a simple snack station, it is part of a larger, university-wide effort to support student success by meeting essential needs. This small but meaningful resource helps reduce everyday stressors, allowing students to focus on what matters most: their education.

The satellite is an extension of MSU Denver’s Rowdy’s Corner, a free campus pantry located in the Tivoli. The main pantry offers a wide range of free items, including non-perishable groceries, fresh produce, hygiene products, school supplies, and even limited access to meal kits. Rowdy’s Corner was established through the Student Care Center to address food insecurity and other basic needs that impact students’ ability to thrive academically. By providing these resources, the university is taking an active role in removing barriers to retention and graduation.

In alignment with that mission, the CBUS Rowdy’s Corner satellite offers quick-grab snacks, hygiene items, and classroom essentials like scantrons, pens, and notebooks right where students already go for academic advising. These easily accessible supplies help students feel supported without the burden of asking for help or traveling across campus.

Approximately one in five CBUS students report using the satellite, a strong indication of both need and trust within the college. As one student noted,

“Having access to things like snacks or scantrons without feeling embarrassed helps take a weight off. It makes a big difference, especially during midterms or finals.”

Research also shows that students who access campus pantries and similar support services are more likely to remain enrolled and graduate on time.

The presence of Rowdy’s Corner, both on the main campus and in CBUS, helps normalize asking for help and removes stigma around essential needs. It reflects the College of Business’s commitment to holistic student success by recognizing that academic support goes beyond the classroom.
