What is the QFSC?

The mission of the Queer Faculty and Staff Collective (QFSC) is to provide support, networking, community building, and professional development opportunities for MSU Denver employees who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, asexual, and intersex as well as those with related identities (LGBTQAI+).

Goals and Values

Among the goals of the QFSC are the following:

  • Organize social/networking and educational events that meet the needs of the membership.
  • Provide opportunities for membership to engage in discussion and advocacy on policy and practice issues that are pertinent to our organizational mission, in collaboration with institutional partners (e.g., The LGBTQ Student Resource Center).
  • Enhance institutional resources and expertise on LGBTQAI+ issues to better serve gender and sexual diversity amongst faculty, staff, and students at MSU Denver.
  • Support employees’ professional development.
  • Collaborate with institutional partners (e.g., Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Human Resources, the Provost’s Office) in promoting strategies that contribute to LGBTQAI+ employee satisfaction and retention.

The following values are central to our work together:

  • We are committed to creating an inclusive and equity-centered community that attends to issues of power between and amongst group members, including our own social identities and professional roles at MSU Denver.
  • We welcome opportunities to engage in intersectional, justice-oriented, collaborative dialogue to address issues of privilege and oppression as they pertain to our lived, professional experiences.
  • We value direct communication as a mechanism to both prevent and resolve potential areas of conflict. We see conflict as positive and inevitable and strive to embrace conflict as an opportunity to build our relationships with one another and achieve our mission.
  • In congruence with our institutional values, we seek to create a climate of mutual respect through direct, kind communication, accessible programming, and transparent decision-making processes.
  • We seek opportunities to center the joys of LGBTQAI+ identities and experiences, as well as addressing issues and challenges as they arise.
