Withdraw/Incomplete update for spring 2020

In response to the substantial impact the COVID-19 pandemic is having on the ability of students to successfully complete coursework and in recognition of the rapidly changing situation, both on a societal and individual level, MSU Denver will implement the following changes to two academic policies for the spring 2020 semester:

1. The deadline for withdrawing from a course will be extended to May 15, 2020, for full-term courses. As the refund deadline has already passed, refunds will not be offered for students withdrawing from a course throughout the remainder of the spring semester.

2. Students may request an Incomplete (I) in a course at any time between April 3, 2020, and May 15, 2020. Students should consult with their faculty to ensure that they understand all policies and procedures that apply to the Incomplete. Incompletes are not appropriate for all courses and requesting an Incomplete is not an automatic process; it is at the discretion of the faculty member whether to grant an incomplete.

To be eligible for an Incomplete in a course, a student must:

1. Have a passing grade in the course at the time the Incomplete is requested;
2. Have completed, at a minimum, at least 75% of the coursework and/or course contact hours at the time the Incomplete is requested.

Departments may have additional standards and/or criteria. Students should consult with their faculty member and department to determine additional requirements. In addition to consulting with their faculty member and department, the student should consult the 2019/2020 Undergraduate or Graduate catalog to review policies and procedures pertaining to the Incomplete. An Incomplete grade can have an impact on financial aid eligibility and students should consult with the Financial Aid Office for further guidance. Students are given a maximum of one calendar year to complete the course before it defaults to an “F” grade.

Please note that these modifications do not alter the procedures for withdrawing from a course or requesting an Incomplete; rather, the only thing changed by these modifications is deadlines for such actions.
