Introducing Jorge Estrada Jr, a Accounting Student that has joined our Fall 2026 CBUS Student Ambassador Program

Hi, my name is Jorge. I am a senior majoring in Accounting. Outside of spreadsheets and numbers, I enjoy cars, whether it’s looking at them or working on them. I am always open to trying new things, especially tasting food and visiting places.
What does a typical day look like for you during the semester?
I usually start my day at 5:30 am. I commute to campus and hate traffic, so I try to beat the rush and end up making it to campus about an hour or so before my first class. I often grab a coffee and use that time to study and do homework. I always try to have my classes back-to-back in the morning, so I’m usually headed home at around noon. I use the rest of my day to study and hang out with my nephew and niece in between to make it feel less of a workload.
What brought you to MSU Denver?
MSU Denver really caught my eye because of its diversity. I wanted to attend a university not only with a strong business school, but also one that had students who were like me. I also noticed that MSU Denver was helpful to first-generation students, like myself, who didn’t have a clue during enrollment processes, registration, etc, and made it super simple and always offered help.
What area of business are you most passionate about?
Although I am an accounting major, I am very passionate about both Accounting and Finance. I just really like all things having to do with numbers, especially solving equations and finding discrepancies. I took 3 extra math classes in high school as electives, just because I really enjoyed them. So, my passion for numbers and math evolved into a passion for Accounting and Finance.
What’s your favorite College of Business memory so far?
My favorite memory at the College of Business so far is probably attending the Meet the Firms events with my friends. Sometimes it’s a bit nerve-wracking talking to different companies and business professionals but doing it with friends who also have the same passion as you make it a lot more enjoyable and fun.
What’s one piece of advice for new students? And/or what’s something you wish you knew before college?
One piece of advice I would give to new students, and something I wish I had known before college, is to really come in with an open mind. I feel like I stressed myself out more with all the “what ifs” before I started a new class or college as a whole, and in the end, it’s really never that bad; it usually ends up being rather fun and rewarding. So, to save yourself from unnecessary stress, I would say not to think about it too hard and just come in with a positive attitude.
