Q&A with Callie
What does a typical day look like for you during the semester?
Typical day of the semester. I’m on campus four days a week. So it looks like trying and trying to get at that. The goal is 6 a.m. get some work done at home. Head to campus and, have a little bit of a break between classes this semester, which is new. So I get to, go to library study, and then I go home and go to work.
What has your journey at MSU Denver been like?
My journey to MSU Denver has been great. I’ve been here. This is my third year as a part time student. Ramping up to full time now. It’s been really nice to balance work and school. And, the faculty has been really engaging and helped me want to say.
What are you passionate about within business?
I’m passionate about economics. Really passionate about research. I like that the goal is to better understand systems and essentially create better outcomes for people.
What are your future career plans?
The goal is grad school right now, so I haven’t thought much past that. Take the degree this summer, put in some applications and hopefully be, in a program by fall 27 and go from there.
What clubs, organizations, or events have you enjoyed the most at MSU Denver?
Oh, gosh. So, being involved with the College of Business Ambassadors has been great. We started this program last semester. It’s gotten me, aware of more events on campus. Being able to, meet with the president and have brunch last semester. A couple of speaker events. Just gets me engaged and around, more faculty and people that are kind of where I want to be. So it’s, it’s a nice inspiration.
What advice would you give to new business students?
It’s okay to not know what you’re doing when you get here. Talk to the advisors. Talk to the professors that you find engaging. Find an area of business that you like and take classes, that help you learn more about that. And, if you really want to go further than talk to the teachers that are teaching it and see what, they recommend, because there’s always another place to go. And, for me, that ended up in wanting to go to grad school, so keep going.
What’s something that you wish you knew before you started college?
I think as a returning student, I wish I knew that the first time around. Maybe, like, I didn’t have to go full throttle the whole time. Like it’s okay to take some classes and, to build that work life balance. School is always going to be there. And the fact that I’ve really been giving it the attention it needs this time, I’ve really found, I feel like a home at school, which I never thought I would have. So make it work for your life. It doesn’t have to be your whole life, but, there’s definitely a place for it in your life.
What’s your favorite thing about being part of the College of Business at MSU Denver?
The friendships. Even after one semester. It’s nice to, come back and see the returning ambassadors to meet people that are just as engaged in the College of Business. I kind of feel like an econ nerd in some of my classes. So it’s nice to be around people that, like to be here as much as I do.
