SU IL KIM, Ph.D. Professor Emeritus of Anthropology at Pikes Peak Community College, Colorado Springs, Colorado (2002-2018; Chair 2010-2017) and Affiliate Faculty of Anthropology at the Metropolitan State University of Denver (2002-Present, [email protected] ). Dr. Kim was born in Tokyo, Japan, of Korean parents, where he attended a Korean elementary and middle school and a Japanese high school. Thereafter he attended Meiji University, where he majored in Mechanical Engineering. In his junior year, he transferred to Central Connecticut State College, New Britain, Connecticut, from which he received a B.A. in Sociology (mentor: Dr. Paul Hochstim). Dr. Kim received an M.A. and Ph.D. in Anthropology from McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. While at Teikyo Loretto Heights University in Denver he directed two study abroad programs in Maastricht, The Netherlands in 2000 & 2001. He has co-directed with Dr. Rebecca Forgash the Study Abroad Japan (Metropolitan State University of Denver), a 3-week fieldtrip through Tokyo, Kyoto and Okinawa, Japan in 2012, 2014, 2016 & 2019. He has lectured at Tokyo Metropolitan University, Teikyo University, Keio University, and Seikei University in Tokyo. Dr. Kim is listed in Marquis’ Who’s Who in America 2011 (65th Edition). Dr. Kim has taught at Teikyo Loretto Heights University (renamed Colorado Heights University; Dean of Academic Affairs; Director and Professor of Intercultural Studies and Japan Studies), Denver, Colorado; as Adjunct Faculty at the University of Denver; Hartford Graduate Center, Hartford, Connecticut; Eastern Connecticut State University; the University of Connecticut; Central Connecticut State University; and Post College, Waterbury, Connecticut. Prior to arriving in Denver, Dr. Kim co-founded with Jim Butts and worked as a psychiatric clinician at the Adolescent Partial Hospital Program (1987-1990), sponsored by the New Britain General Hospital and New Britain Board of Education, New Britain, Connecticut. He has a 14 year-history of working in the U.S. mental health field. With his linguistic anthropologist wife, Dr. Kim owns Kim and Kim Associates, academic and business consulting in translation, cultural interpretation, and Japanese corporate culture and behavior.
