Bio
I began my career in education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While studying at UNC Chapel Hill, I majored in elementary with an emphasis in Spanish. I received a Master’s degree in Special Education from Appalachian State University. The majority of my K-12 teaching experience occurred in an elementary school with a high percentage of native Spanish speaking students. I continually found myself questioning whether some of the students had a disability or a language difference and questioning whether parents truly felt involved in the special education process. These questions resulted in a return to school to further my studies.
I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with an Ed.D. in Special Education and a minor in statistics. My teaching at MSU Denver has included a focus on assessment in special education, differentiation of instruction and collaboration, instructional planning, reading disabilities, and foundations of elementary education. My teaching was limited while I served as chair for the Elementary Education and Literacy department for eight years. I returned to full-time teaching in the special education in the fall of 2016. While I enjoyed my work as department chair, I am delighted to be back teaching full-time.

Research Interests
My research interests include teacher candidate professional behaviors, hybrid and flipped classroom instruction, and parent involvement in education. I co-wrote two grants targeting literacy for incarcerated youth and co-wrote and received a grant designed to pay the tuition of students during their student teaching semester. Currently, I am collaborating with colleagues on articles related to blended course offerings, parents' experiences in the Individualized Education Process, and preparing general education teachers to work with students with special needs.
