Bio
Dr. John Dienhart is the chairman of Hospitality, Tourism, and Events Management at the Metropolitan State College of Denver located in downtown Denver. He has over 25 years of experience involving teaching in higher education. He received his terminal degree from Kansas State University, because of his keen interest in the administrative aspects of managing and leading an academic hospitality program. As a result, he now has 19 years of experience as a department chair. His special interests involve the study and teaching of service orientation and the hospitality attitude. After 20 years in the food service business in Indiana, he entered the world of higher education after completing his Masters Degree in 1984 at Purdue University as a businessman with an interest in education and today is an educator with a keen interest in the business of hospitality.
His career highlights focus on his use of service orientation and the hospitality attitude in developing successful hospitality management programs in Maryland and Colorado. He completed the construction and opening of the $5.6 million Richard A. Henson Center, a state-of-the-art hotel teaching, learning, and research center at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Maryland in the early 1990s. He established the UMES off-campus Hotel and Restaurant Management program in downtown Baltimore, now located in Shady Grove, Maryland.
Over the last 14 years, Dr. Dienhart’s dream has come true--a service oriented hospitality academic program that carries a hospitality attitude. Construction of the $45,000, 000 Metropolitan State College of Denver Hotel and Hospitality Learning Center opening August of 2012 is a major part of this dream. Its mission is to be a nationally renowned hospitality program affordably serving a diverse student population. This Center will prepare tomorrow's hospitality leaders within an experiential learning for-profit hotel located in urban Denver, a living laboratory.
Dr. Dienhart’s energy and excitement come from his faculty and students, the other part of his dream. A faculty, through it demonstrated leadership and expertise, which prepares students for success in the hospitality industry and life in general. His charge continues to be to make his Dean, faculty, and students look good.
