Bio
Jessica Weiss is Professor of Art History, Theory and Criticism at Metropolitan State University of Denver. Her research focuses on the artistic connections between Iberia and Northern Europe, specifically the court artist Juan de Flandes and the ways in which Netherlandish visual culture was used to articulate a proto-nationalistic “Spanish” identity. She is currently developing a book-length manuscript considering the artistic production Juan de Flandes and his involvement in the creation of a specifically Castilian visual idiom in service of Queen Isabel of Castile and her courtiers.
