Jessica Bertram

Senior Lecturer of Mathematics and Statistics

Mathematics & Statistics

Bio

I came to teaching through my job years ago as a craps dealer. I used to assist my mentor in his lessons to new dealers. After graduating with two degrees in mechanical engineering, having taught in grad school and with no desire to be an engineer, I knew my place was in a classroom.

My goal as an instructor is to expose the fun in math, and to demystify the subject for those who have fear or trepidation for math. I believe everyone can work within a mathematical framework successfully; we do so every day, albeit subconsciously. Math can and should be enjoyable; it helps us make sense of the world and of our part in it.
