As announced in a previous Early Bird, the Science Building networkupgrade project has been scheduled for Aug. 814.

Work will primarily involve:

  • Replacing end-of-life and near-end-of-life network equipment.
  • Installing new equipment to improve the overall wireless environment.

Similar work has already been done in the Central Classroom, PE, Arts and Jordan Student Success buildings on campus, resulting in measurable improvements in Wi-Fi speed, coverage and connectivity.

How were these dates determined?

These dates were selected based on conversations with Auraria Campus tenants, multi-institutional faculty and staff members and other stakeholders to prioritize minimum impact while allowing enough time for work to be completed.

Information Technology Services has been in contact with building stakeholders to ensure minimal impact to any equipment or experiments that may be affected by a network outage. But if you know of any conflicts or problems with these scheduled dates, please contact Darius Jack or Amparo Garcia.

What systems will be impacted during the project?

Metropolitan State University of Denver phone and internet (wired and wireless) connections will be unavailable on all floors of the Science Building during this time frame. Employees who work in the Science Building should plan to work remotely or from another campus building.

When will systems be restored?

ITS anticipates network access will be restored on all floors as of Aug. 15. Technicians will be in the building to test, tweak and correct any lingering problems related to the upgrade.

What does this project entail?

The Network Modernization Initiative will improve MSU Denver’s network and wireless environments by addressing issues with deferred maintenance and outdated network infrastructure. This project will replace wireless access points and edge/access and distribution-layer switches in multiple buildings across campus. These improvements will provide a more robust and stable network environment capable of supporting the University’s evolving needs in a scalable and secure manner.
