It might seem early to make plans for the fall semester, but employees won’t want to miss the inaugural Metropolitan State University of Denver Community Collab Summit on Aug. 23. The community and leadershipdevelopment event aims to build campus community through conversation and thoughtful, strategic leadershipdevelopment sessions and programming. All faculty and staff members as well as chairs, deans and senior leaders are encouraged to attend.

Kelly Evans

This is an event for faculty and staff by faculty and staff,” said Presidential Faculty Fellow Kelly Evans, event co-organizer. “Communitybuilding can take time and real effort, and it all starts with people coming together for events like this.

EB: How does this event build on the success of the former Professional Development Conference?

KE: The PDC laid the foundation for the Community Collab Summit in that it allowed faculty and staff to build community through shared experiences. This conference is keeping that framework in place and adding a focus on engagement and interaction, with a more hands-on approach to community-building and leadership development.

EB: What types of presentation and submission proposals are you hoping to receive?

KE: We are looking for proposals that address tough issues on campus: workload, compensation, benefit packages, specific/targeted topics that affect affiliate faculty, staff, junior faculty, running effective meetings, team building, work/life balance, etc.  All topics that relate to MSU Denver’s success are welcome!

EB: Why are you excited for this event?

KE: I’m excited to meet new people and to hear fresh ideas. I firmly believe in MSU Denver’s mission and how we as faculty and staff members can contribute to that mission and student success.

EB: Can employees still get involved, and are there ways to support the event beyond presenting?

KE: Yes! I would love to have more staff involved in the programmatic planning. Anyone interested can email me directly or use the feedback mechanisms on the MSU Denver Community Collab Summit website. They can also submit ideas for community circles and leadership development. Submitters don’t necessarily have to lead the session they propose, but if they have a great idea, we want to hear it.!
