Effective onboarding processes are shown to foster an employee’s sense of belonging within the wider organization and support overall employee retention.

Honoring recent feedback received from the Metropolitan State University of Denver community, Human Resources is implementing changes to streamline the current onboarding model. Grounded in the University’s CADRE values, these changes represent our focus on process improvement and are centered on creating a positive experience for new employees and supervisors.

NEO scheduling changes

As of April 1, all New Employee Orientation dates will be adjusted to better support University onboarding processes overall. To encourage more efficient onboarding timelines, HR will continue to host two New Employee Orientation events per month, but New Employee Orientations will no longer always fall on the first and third Mondays.

All New Employee Orientation dates through December will be available via the Learning and Development SharePoint site April 1. The intent for this resource is to create a space for regularly updated information to be shared and accessed by current employees and supervisors.

Other New Employee Orientation improvements as of April 1:

  • The New Employee Orientation agenda will be condensed to approximately five hours.
  • All new employees and supervisors will receive the New Employee Orientation agenda in advance via email.
  • The agenda will focus on specific areas of need for new employees, including parking/transportation, hardware assignments, campus IDs and benefits.
  • The streamlined New Employee Orientation creates time and space for new employees to connect and build community with their individual teams on their first day with the University.

The Learning and Development site will also house important information for new employees and supervisors to return to throughout the onboarding process. Within this space, the Learning and Development Department will continue to offer coaching opportunities, materials and ongoing onboarding strategies for supervisors.

HR would like to thank the University community for its feedback. HR’s transition will require all of us to be flexible. As HR evolves, our intent is to champion practices that better serve the MSU Denver community. If you have questions, please contact [email protected].
