Roadrunners who access wireless internet in the Arts Building should see two new options in their device’s list of available Wi-Fi Networks.

The Arts Building’s transition to AurariaNet and AurariaNetGuest networks marks the first step in a campuswide effort to offer more streamlined and consistent wireless access across campus.

The initiative will also:

  • Increase network reliability and cost effectiveness.
  • Allow Wi-Fi users to move between buildings and classrooms without being disconnected and having to log back in to a specific network.

AurariaNet and AurariaNetGuest will eventually replace the approximately eight different networks, known as single service set identifiers, currently used across campus by Metropolitan State University of Denver, University of Colorado Denver, Community College of Denver and the Auraria Higher Education Center.

No service disruptions

The Auraria Campus wireless network team, including representatives from all three higher education institutions and AHEC, will transition additional campus buildings to AurariaNet and AurariaNetGuest over the next year.

The pilot phase of the AurariaNet project won’t disrupt or impact the current WiFi networks in the Arts Building such as ‘MSUDenver’ and ‘MSUDenver-Guest’ but will help the Auraria Campus determine needs for the campuswide rollout beginning this summer, said Darius Jack, director Network and Infrastructure Services.

“This project also does not impact the ownership or control of the MSU Denver network or the other institution’s networks; rather, it is simply a way of efficiently naming the networks,” he said.

Test the network and provide feedback

Arts Building users are encouraged to log in to AurariaNet during the month of April and provide feedback about their experience. Contact Darius Jack for more information and to provide feedback.

To sign in on a computer:

  1. Click on the internet icon on the Wi-Fi icon in the top right menu.
  2. You should see AurariaNet. Select this option.
  3. Enter your full MSU Denver email and password.
  4. Select “connect automatically” so that you will not have to enter your login details again.

To sign in on a cell phone:

  1. Go to the settings and click “Wi-Fi.”
  2. Select the AurariaNet option.
  3. Enter your full MSU Denver email and password.
  4. Most phones will remember a network you log into so you won’t need to log in again.

Authorization will still be completed on the back end to ensure that Wi-Fi users are correctly directed to their institution’s networks. Darius Jack doesn’t expect the project to interrupt any services or have any associated costs beyond time and labor.
