Metropolitan State University of Denver Apple computer users will soon be able to schedule virtual Teams meetings seamlessly. To make this happen, Information Technology Services will retire the capability to schedule Skype for Business meetings across the University, which will impact both Apple and Windows users.

Currently, Apple users report having to awkwardly switch between the Microsoft Office 365 application and web portal to schedule a Teams meeting — or having to move meetings to Skype for Business – a less accessible, less functional and increasingly unsupported option.

Once ITS updates the University’s Office 365 environment on Nov. 16:

  • Apple users will be able to create Microsoft Teams meetings through Office 365 applications.
  • Windows users no longer have Skype for Business meeting options.
  • Other functionality in Skype for Business and Microsoft Teams will not be affected.

This change will only affect a small number of users, as most MSU Denver virtual meetings already utilize Teams. Furthermore, Microsoft has communicated its intent to eventually sunset Skype for Business in favor of Microsoft Teams.

Recap of changes:

  • This change will only impact the ability to create Skype for Business meetings.
  • Existing Skype for Business meetings should not be affected.
  • If users have any scheduled or recurring meetings that run through Skype for Business, ITS strongly encourages recreating them in the Teams environment.

The ITS Knowledgebase has over a dozen articles about using Teams, including one specifically for how to schedule a Teams meeting.
