The Office of Faculty Affairs recently completed the first year of the Leaders Academy, a program that provided over 25 chairs, directors and other current and aspiring academic leaders from across schools, colleges and academic programs with insight on University resources and administrative decision-making as well as professional-development opportunities.

Bill Henry, Ph.D.

“Covid-19 disrupted the rollout of the program, so it is thrilling to see it finally come to life and provide invaluable experience, knowledge and skills to support those members of our community interested in serving in leadership roles,” said Bill Henry, Ph.D., vice provost for Faculty Affairs. “By increasing the support we offer our leaders, we will increase the University’s capacity to fulfill our fundamental mission of serving our students.

This year’s academy featured presentations from University experts on:

  • Academic-program evaluation and curriculum-planning processes.
  • Student-employment processes, performance-management tips and fostering employee engagement.
  • The University’s budgetary processes and purchasing procedures.
  • Internal and external communication and outreach efforts.

Academy participants also heard insights and updates from University Advancement, the Office of Graduate Studies, the Dean of Students Office, the Office of the Registrar, Enrollment Management, and the Institutional Review Board and Human Subjects Protection Program.

Faculty Affairs is gathering feedback from this year’s academy participants to revise and enhance the 2022-23 program. Information about the next cohort and curriculum, including how to enroll, will be available prior to the fall semester.
