Have you ever wondered what the Staff Senate does and how officers and senators support the needs of Metropolitan State University of Denver staff members? Learn more about how the Staff Senate works and how to get involved.

What is the Staff Senate?

The MSU Denver Staff Senate is dedicated to creating an inclusive and solutions-focused community to advocate for all administrative and classified staff members and student employees, improving their University experience. Each spring, Staff Senate officers and senators are nominated and voted on by fellow Roadrunners; a new session begins each July 1.

What has the Staff Senate done for you?

You might wonder how the Staff Senate’s amplifying the voice of MSU Denver staff members has made an impact. Accomplishments achieved on behalf of staff members include:

  • Authoring and co-sponsoring the Staff Alternative Work Arrangements Policy, approved this past April.
  • Successfully advocating for equitable salary increases and bonuses for administrative/professional staff members.
  • Establishing seats at the tables of the University’s highest-level decision-making bodies.
  • Facilitating open discussions with relevant guest speakers selected with University staff members in mind.
  • Representing and advocating for staff members on the University’s recognition and awards committees.

How to get involved

You don’t have to be an officer or senator to participate in the Staff Senate. Get involved by:

  • Attending virtual Staff Senate meetings on the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting is Tuesday from 10-11:30 a.m.
  • Joining a Staff Senate committee to advance Senate priorities. Committee topics include employment policy; ethics; communication; diversity, equity and inclusion and more.
  • Submitting ideas, asking questions and sharing your concerns by reaching out to your Senate representative or directly contacting Staff Senatethe Staff Senate. The Staff Senate can be most effective when members understand which topics staff members are passionate about.
  • Nominating yourself or a colleague for open senator and leadership positions next March.
