The Metropolitan State University of Denver faculty brain trust reaches almost every point on the academic spectrum, and we are always proud to see Roadrunners sharing their knowledge. Each month, the Early Bird highlights a few faculty members who have served as subject-matter experts on timely news topics, providing dynamic perspectives on critical issues.

Here’s a sampling from July:

The Denver Post and Telemundo Denver featured Arturo Jimenez, J.D., affiliate professor in Chicana/o Studies and Criminal Justice, who offered advice for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients on how to prepare for the potential demise of the program by seeking alternative routes.

Chad Kendall, Aviation associate professor, interviewed with Scripps National Media about the pilot shortage hitting the aviation industry, most notably smaller regional airlines.

Steve Beaty, Ph.D., Computer Science chair and professor, spoke with Colorado Public Radio about consumer rights and the Colorado Privacy Act, which took effect July 1. Edgar Maldonado, Computer Information Systems professor, also interviewed with 9News about how the act is designed to give more control to consumers over the collection and use of their personal data.

Darrin Duber-Smith, Marketing senior lecturer, interviewed with KOA Radio about Meta’s new social media app, Threads, a direct competitor to Twitter, the latter of which continues to face backlash over policy changes.

Matthew Makley, Ph.D., History chair and professor, interviewed with San Francisco Gate about the spiritual significance of Cave Rock, a natural monument along the shoreline of Lake Tahoe, and the fight to keep it a sacred site for the Washoe Tribe.
