The Metropolitan State University of Denver faculty brain trust reaches almost every point on the academic spectrum, and we are always proud to see Roadrunners sharing their knowledge. Each month, the Early Bird highlights a few faculty members who have served as subject-matter experts on timely news topics, providing dynamic perspectives on critical issues.

Here’s a sampling from October:

  • Alex Bodrookas, History assistant professor, interviewed with La Voz about the Israeli-Hamas war and provided historical context of the decades-long conflict.
  • Tricia Hudson-Matthews, professor and chair of the Human Services Department, interviewed with Telemundo Denver and 9News about MSU Denver’s partnership with local nonprofit Blue Rising to help address the fentanyl crisis on college campuses across Colorado.
  • Renee Fajardo, MSU Denver Journey Through Our Heritage coordinator, interviewed with Axios Denver and The Denver Post about the cultural and spiritual meaning of Dia de los Muertos.
  • Shannon Donnelly, School of Hospitality affiliate professor, interviewed with Scripps News about the complications of potentially introducing marijuana breathalyzers in workplaces and law enforcement.
  • Jeff Price, Aerospace and Aviation professor, interviewed with The Associated Press about the level and frequency of medical screenings that pilots undergo to ensure that they are in good health, after an off-duty pilot attempted to turn off the engines of a commercial aircraft in midflight.
