Students in a classroomEach year, dozens of instructors work with their department and the Office of Online Learning to develop (or redevelop) Metropolitan State University of Denver courses. They engage in a monthslong course-development project in partnership with the Center for Teaching, Learning and Design Instructional Design Group, creating courses that are designed and facilitated in new ways. This process is described in more detail here: CTLD Course Development Cycle.

The spring development cycle is well underway, and it is time to begin planning for the fall cycle, which will begin in August and last through December.

Submitting a course-development project is a joint decision between an interested faculty member and their department. Department chairs are invited to submit these courses to the Office of Online Learning, but faculty interest is the driving force behind the most successful projects. Faculty members interested in this kind of work are encouraged to complete this Course Development Interest Form and/or discuss it with their department chair. Once courses have been put forth for development, strategic discussions lead to the final selections.

Not sure what to expect?

Faculty members participating in the design cycle will work closely with the CTLD’s Instructional Design team, including instructional media and instructional accessibility support. The course can be new or existing and can be in any format, from asynchronous online to fully in person or anything in between. The CTLD’s instructional-design process weaves together faculty subject-matter expertise with industry-leading best practices in teaching and learning, producing a high-quality, high-impact course. In the end, everything is done in the service of creating outstanding educational experiences for MSU Denver students.

Stipend

Faculty members who successfully develop a course that passes MSU Denver Online Course Design standards (established by an all-faculty committee) are paid a stipend of $5,000 after completion.
