Student employment is one of the most valuable learning experiences Metropolitan State University of Denver offers. The Human Resources team has hired numerous former student employees as full-time workers, and those employees are thriving in their careers as HR professionals.

The student-employment team has been evaluating how to better support students and supervisors. One of the obstacles identified is the challenge of collecting all onboarding documents. Often, HR receives incomplete paperwork, which results in the delay of onboarding student workers.

As of March 8, HR will begin hosting required student-employee orientations, during which student employees will complete all necessary documentation and have a chance to ask questions.

Orientations will be held Tuesday afternoons and Friday mornings (times will be subject to change) at the Jordan Student Success Building. Students can enroll at https://www.msudenver.edu/human-resources/calendar/.

If prospective student employees are not able to attend the required training on a Tuesday or Friday, they must email [email protected] to make other arrangements. Only one session is required.

As a reminder, the Student Employment Team hosts monthly training sessions via Microsoft Teams on electronic Personnel Action Forms for student-employee positions. In addition to these trainings, the team hosts open sessions twice a week for supervisors who need assistance with an ePAF. The team is also available to help on a one-on-one basis if a supervisor has multiple questions or is a new supervisor who may have missed that month’s training session. The details for the scheduled sessions are available on the HR Training Calendar (https://www.msudenver.edu/human-resources/), and the team can be reached at [email protected] to schedule an individual session.

The HR Student Employment Team looks forward to working with faculty and staff members as well as student employees to continue improving onboarding times and experiences for students and supervisors.
