Proposal Submission Steps

Complete these steps in order to get your badge proposal into the review process.

1. Designate an Approver
Before submitting, contact our badging team to verify that an individual has been designated in Modern Campus Curriculum (MCC) to review and approve micro-credential proposals for your department or unit. If needed, have that individual submit the Designated Approver Form to establish their review and approval in the MCC workflow.

2. Prepare Your Proposal Materials
Gather all required information (see Requirements section below) before you begin filling out the new proposal form. Having everything ready will speed up the process significantly.

3. Submit Through Modern Campus Curriculum (MCC)
Complete the 00. Digital Badging/ Micro-Credential New Proposal Submission Form in Modern Campus Curriculum, taking time to both “launch” your proposal and then “approve” your proposal to move forward in the review process.

Proposal Requirements

Every badge proposal must include the following components. Incomplete proposals will be returned for revision.

  • A designated micro-credential program manager responsible for oversight of the administrative details associated with the badge.
  • A description of the purpose and scope of the micro-credential, including any required academic courses or course components with academic credit.
  • A list of competencies associated with the micro-credential, including knowledge, skills, experiences, and other measurable outcomes.
  • A description of artifacts (e.g., a project, written reflection, workshop attendance) and how they will be assessed in alignment with the stated competencies.
  • A letter of support, required only when interdepartmental offices or cross-functional units propose a badge.

Review Process

After your proposal is launched and approved to continue in the review process, additional review steps include:

4. Administrative Review
The Office of Curriculum, Academic Effectiveness and Policy Development checks that your proposal meets minimum requirements. Incomplete submissions are returned for revision. The proposal then moves forward for appropriate department/dean or unit head approvals before review by the Badging Committee.

5. University Badging Committee Review
Approved proposals are forwarded to the University Badging Committee for full review.

The Badging Committee will review micro-credential proposals for inclusion of all necessary components, appropriate categorization (for example, micro-credential without academic credit), quality, consistency, potential duplication with existing micro-credentials and possible conflicts or impacts on other academic or university units. The committee will return for edit or reject proposals that are incomplete or duplicate existing micro-credential offerings. Once a micro-credential proposal is approved, a representative of the Badging Committee will inform the proposal originator of the committee’s decision and communicate next steps.

If the proposed micro-credential is not associated with academic course credit and all competencies are assessed in noncredit courses through Innovative and Life-long Learning, then academic departments and/or university units can propose the micro-credential in association with the Office of Innovative and Lifelong Learning. Any changes to noncredit courses will follow the MSU Denver Noncredit Continuing Education Course Guidelines. Approved micro-credentials will be shared with the Badging Committee as an information item.
