Graduate Students

Graduate students have different English proficiency requirements for admission. Check the Office of Graduate Studies webpage for the master’s degree program requirements.

International students must be proficient in English prior to being accepted to Metropolitan State University of Denver. An admission decision cannot be made until we receive qualifying proof of English proficiency.

International students must meet our UG English proficiency requirements by one of the following ways:

  • Accepted test score that meets our minimum score requirement
  • Citizenship in one of the listed majority English-speaking countries
  • Completion of an accredited ESL program
  • Academic study in the U.S. or any of the exempted majority English-speaking countries
  • Accepted international academic qualification for proof of sufficient English proficiency

We must receive an official copy of your documents to meet the English proficiency requirement.
Official documents are sent to MSU Denver directly by the institution that holds a copy of your records, such as the testing service, your school, ministry of education, or examination board.

Consideration of other test results and evidence of English proficiency will be reviewed on an individual case-by-case basis. We do not accept medium of instruction as measurable proof of sufficient English proficiency.

The Office of Admissions reserves the right to request additional proof of English proficiency, even if an applicant meets one or more of the above conditions.

Please contact International Admissions if you have any questions about these requirements.
