Senior Lecturer Sheri Betzer hosted the “Accounting Careers in Government” session, featuring a panel of four professionals from our Accounting Roadrunner Community. Representing a range of government agencies and roles, each panelist shared valuable insights into their day-to-day responsibilities, career journeys, certifications, job stability, and more.

Since receiving her B.S. in Accounting from Colorado Mesa University, Sheri has become one of the foremost experts in fraud and forensic accounting. She regularly conducts continuing education courses for CPA’s and attorneys while maintaining a practice that involves litigation support, fraud investigation, and financial consulting. Former clients include the US Dept. of Justice, the Colorado Dept. of Revenue, and public defender offices throughout CO, AZ, and WY.
Mr. Kahn is a Certified Public Accountant with diverse experience in accounting, budgeting, and finance, including 20 years in management with nine years at the Director level. He managed multiple large-scale audit and consulting engagements of federal, state, and local government entities, employee benefit plans, private companies, and not-for-profit organizations. Mr. Kahn is a subject matter expert in the application of governmental and not-for-profit accounting standards, public administration, management, and leadership. He has been a public speaker and testimonial witness to the State of Colorado Legislative Audit Committee, as well as an Adjunct Professor with Metropolitan State University of Denver since 2013 and the University of Maryland since 2006.
Inna Kuzovova is originally from Ukraine, but Russian is her 1st language. She has a Master’s Degree in Education and Foreign Languages, and a Bachelor’s in Accounting. Inna started working for the City and County of Denver almost 9 years ago as an Accounting Technician at the Controller’s Office. She currently works for the Office of Climate Action and manages General Fund, several Special Revenue Funds, and grants.
Marina Mourzina graduated Metropolitan State University of Denver with a Master’s degree in Professional Accounting, and currently holds Colorado CPA license and earned her CFE and CECFE certifications. Marina previously worked as an accountant, auditor and consultant and is currently employed as a Forensic Auditor with Medicaid Fraud, Abuse and Neglect Unit at Colorado Attorney General’s office, working alongside law enforcement officers and prosecutors investigating and completing both criminal and civil cases that involve Colorado Medicaid patients and services. In that capacity she served as an expert witness at hearings and trials and as a consultant on investigative strategy and forensic accounting evidence evaluations. She also works as an independent CPA providing consulting and tax services to individuals and small businesses.
Erica started her career as a Financial Audit Intern in 2017 with the State of Colorado at the Office of the State Auditor (OSA), eventually advancing to Senior Legislative Financial Auditor II. In 2022, she joined the Department of Human Services as a Program Accountant. Erica became the Finance Team Supervisor at the Department of Early Childhood in December 2023 before returning to the OSA as a supervisor in March 2025. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Accounting from Metropolitan State University of Denver in 2018. Prior to her accounting career, she worked in the restaurant industry.
