Meet the Team

Katie Strain is a triple-TTB Certified Chemist for the analysis of beer, wine, and spirits for export.  She helped to open and promote the Beverage Analytics QA/QC Lab in April of 2019, and has been the acting Laboratory Manager ever since.  Katie came to MSU Denver from Southern Illinois University- Carbondale, where she earned a Master of Science with a focus on method development and validation of soil and water samples taken from large-scale agricultural fields and aquatic microcosms.

After graduation, she worked as the Lab Manager for the Fermentation Science Institute, which is where she focused her analytical expertise on alcoholic beverages.  Katie is a lecturer in the MSU Denver School of Hospitality Brewery Operations Program, where she teaches Intro to Homebrewing & Fermentation, Beers of the World, Beer and Food, and Brewing Quality Analysis
