Dear Roadrunners,

It is with a heavy heart that I send this message about another shooting, this time in Thousand Oaks, California. My thoughts go out to the community there and, in particular, to the faculty, staff and students at our sister institution California State University Channel Islands.

Tragedies such as these can cause a great deal of sadness and anxiety, even for those not directly affected. Add that to the stress of closing out the semester, and life can sometimes feel overwhelming. Self-care is essential, so please make sure to take the time you need to be your best. If you need additional support, the professionals in our Counseling Center can help. You can visit them in Tivoli 651 or call 303-615-9988. After-hours mental-health support is also available by phone at 303-615-9911.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t emphasize that my top priority is keeping our community safe. But I also need your help. Please make sure your contact information is updated in Banner so that you receive messages from our Emergency Alert System. And if you witness a situation that seems unusual or suspicious, don’t hesitate to alert the Auraria Police Department. Call 303-556-5000 or text a tip to 720-593-TIPS (8477).

To the community of Thousand Oaks and our colleagues at CSU Channel Islands, please know that the MSU Denver family stands with you during this difficult time.

Sincerely,
Janine Davidson, Ph.D.
President
