Welcome to a new academic year. I hope you found time this summer to rest, recharge and prepare for the year ahead.
For years, we have talked about the future of MSU Denver. This fall, that future is taking shape all around us and soon will usher in a new era for our University.
Summit House, the University’s first on-campus housing, is rising above campus and will soon give hundreds of students a new way to live, learn and build community. It will also house our Career to Classroom Hub, integrating student services with daily campus life. The Gina and Frank Day Health Institute Tower will transform how we prepare Colorado’s next generation of healthcare professionals. A renovated Auraria Event Center will create new opportunities for gathering, connection and campus life. And behind the scenes, our teams are preparing for Workday Student, one of the most significant investments we have made in the student experience.
Together, these projects represent a new phase for MSU Denver.
We are moving from planning to implementation, from possibility to progress, and from imagining the University’s next era to building it. These projects are visible signs of the flywheel momentum created through our strategic plan — work that has, with philanthropic support and state funding, enabled us to reinvest thoughtfully in our students and our future. Maintaining that momentum will require continued focus on the priorities driving student success.
Every one of these investments is rooted in a single goal: helping students succeed. Whether it’s creating a stronger sense of belonging through campus housing, preparing students for high-demand careers in healthcare, connecting students to the workforce, removing barriers through better technology or creating spaces where our community can gather and thrive, these projects are designed to help students persist, graduate and launch meaningful careers.
And while new buildings and new systems matter, we know they are only part of the equation. Student success has always been powered by people.
Every new space, system and initiative depends on the faculty and staff who bring it to life. You are the people who welcome students, challenge them, guide them, solve problems and help them see what is possible for their futures.
As the University changes, our purpose remains constant: providing an excellent, accessible education that transforms lives and strengthens Colorado. MSU Denver was built to meet this moment, and we are ready to build on the momentum we have created together.
I am excited for what lies ahead, and I look forward to seeing you at Welcome Back on Sept. 1.
