A Look Inside the Role

My main responsibilities include digital marketing, email marketing, website editing, social media marketing, campaign strategy, and sales. I also help create marketing content, update websites, and support projects that help the organization attract and engage new customers. A typical day is from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. I arrive at the studio, set up my computer, and usually receive a text message from my supervisor, Tom, with a list of tasks for the day. I often work alongside Chauncy, who provides guidance and walks me through new tasks step by step. My work varies each day, but it usually includes updating websites, creating marketing materials, managing email campaigns, and helping with social media projects.

One thing that surprised me is how much I enjoy working for a salsa dance studio. Before this internship, I had never been involved in the dance world, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. It has been exciting to learn about the community and contribute to an organization that brings people together through dance. It has shown me how marketing can positively impact a community-focused business.

Growing Through Experience

I am developing skills in digital marketing, email marketing, social media management, website editing, campaign strategy, and sales. I am also improving my communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and time management skills by working on real marketing projects and learning new tools in a professional environment.

This internship has confirmed that I enjoy working in marketing. I like the creativity involved in developing campaigns, managing digital content, and helping an organization grow. It has given me valuable hands-on experience and made me excited to pursue a career in marketing after graduation.

I am earning academic credit for this internship while gaining professional experience that complements what I am learning in my marketing courses.

The Hiring Process: How I Landed the Role

I found this internship through the C2Hub at MSU Denver. I came across the opportunity while searching for internships related to marketing and applied through the platform.

The process was simple. After applying, I was invited to an interview where we discussed my background, marketing experience, and interest in the internship. After the interview, I was offered the position and completed the required onboarding paperwork before starting.

I applied to approximately 8 internships and marketing-related positions before receiving this offer. Although the process was competitive, each application and interview helped me improve my resume, interviewing skills, and confidence.

My marketing courses at MSU Denver provided a strong foundation in digital marketing, consumer behavior, branding, and marketing strategy. I also received guidance from faculty members throughout the internship process, and the coursework helped me feel prepared to contribute to real-world marketing projects from the start.

Words of Wisdom

One thing that helped me stand out during the interview process was highlighting my previous hands-on marketing experience instead of only focusing on coursework. I talked about the social media management, content creation, and website work I had already done, which showed that I could apply what I learned in the classroom to real projects. I would also encourage students to apply to as many internships as possible and not get discouraged by rejections because every application is a learning experience.
