Biography

I came to the academic life later in my career. Following years of management in the corporate sector, I founded and served as executive director of a nonprofit foundation supporting students of color in attaining a college education, and in four other interim director positions. I directed a national Americorps program for five years and raised over $5 million in support of education, mental health and political causes. I received my nonprofit education at Metro State and it has been a privilege to direct the Nonprofit Studies program, which celebrated its 40th year at MSU Denver in 2014. I served as an affiliate faculty for 7 years, as a visiting assistant professor for 5 years, and as assistant professor for 6 years until receiving my tenure in 2011. I am committed through my teaching to provide the best prepared new leaders for the nonprofit sector, as well as informed citizens and activists for our community.
