Biography

My desire as an educator is to guide every student to reach their full potential as students, professionals, and humans. I dothis through an energetic and approachable teaching style so that students feel confident in what they have learned, while also developing critical thinking skills and applying their education to real-life professional experiences.

My lived experience as an autism mom to a 16-year-old has greatly shaped my belief in and understanding that everyone learns and absorbs information differently. As an educator, I work with students to teach in ways that resonate with them, while maintaining a consistent teaching approach. My 20 years of internal audit and professional experience have also provided me with a wealth of real-life examples and experience to share with students.

Though I just embarked on my teaching career in 2023 after nearly 20 years in internal audit, leadership, and risk management, the desire to educate, teach, and influence future leaders runs deep through my family. My parents retired after 30+ years of public education experience (a third-grade teacher and an elementary school principal), my maternal grandfather was the Dean of the College of Education at the University of Alabama, and my paternal grandfather was the first academic coordinator for the University of Alabama football team in the 1960s. Though my family history in education isn’t indicative of my own qualifications to teach, I believe it is demonstrative of the educational environment in which I was reared, and it serves as a backbone for my teaching philosophy.
