We may be a couple weeks out from the Fall ’24 Commencement Ceremony, but we have already started celebrating our soon-to-be graduates!

Last week at the College of Business Outstanding Student Awards event, we honored our departmental award recipients. Our faculty selected 1 undergraduate Accounting student and 1 Master of Professional Accounting (MPAcc) student to receive this accolade before they wrap up their degree this December. It was a wonderful night to celebrate all of our College of Business winners along with their family and friends!

Expecting to graduate this Fall ’24 term with a 4.0 GPA in our online accounting program is no easy feat! Jason started his college journey earning an associate’s and then transferring to MSU Denver. We’re so glad he chose to pursue his bachelor’s degree with us! While exceeding in his coursework here, Jason has been working as a Night Auditor for a hotel in Castle Rock and completed an internship at RubinBrown. He plans to sit for the CPA next summer before starting his full-time role in August 2025 at RubinBrown. Congratulations Jason, we are proud to soon call you an MSU Denver alum!” – Dr. Greg Clifton, Accounting Department Chair

MPAcc recipient: Laura Girdner

CBUS Outstanding Student Awards Fall 24 - Laura Girdner (MPAcc award recipient) & Andrew Holt (full professor)“All of the graduate accounting faculty say that Laura is outstanding, as both a student and a person. She is a critical thinker and driven to succeed. She challenges her professors and tries to improve every day. We are currently working on research project together, and she is joy to collaborate with – it’s like working with another professor. Her drive and attention to detail are first rate. Nothing for Laura is too difficult or challenging. Our current project required data collection via interviews. Within two months, she completed 25 interviews and has partially written up the results. During one interview she was offered a job as an accounting manager. That speaks volumes about what kind of person she is. Congratulations to Laura on winning this award.” – Dr. Andrew Holt, Full Professor
