DENVER – The January episode of Bird Talk, MSU Denver’s alumni-focused podcast, features a compelling conversation with Brad Kaplan, a 1982 graduate of the College of Business and retired vice president of finance for the West Division of Comcast. Kaplan, an active alumnus, shares insights on his career, his continued engagement with MSU Denver and the importance of giving back.

Hosted by Jamie Hurst, the episode explores Kaplan’s professional journey, from earning his accounting degree to holding financial leadership roles at major corporations such as MediaOne and Comcast. More than his career accomplishments, Kaplan’s story highlights his unwavering connection to MSU Denver, a commitment affectionately referred to as the “Brad Kaplan Effect” within the university’s University Advancement team.

Following his retirement, Kaplan made it a priority to remain engaged with MSU Denver, serving as treasurer of the Alumni Association, mentoring students and supporting Roadrunners Athletics. His philanthropic efforts were recognized in 2019 when he was named MSU Denver Philanthropist of the Year.

“I always looked at MSU Denver as the foundation of my career,” Kaplan says in the episode. “Now, I want to give back and help students find the same success that I had.”

The conversation also delves into Kaplan’s role in creating a mentoring program for business students, his advocacy for university fundraising efforts and his decision to establish a planned gift to support future generations of MSU Denver students.
