Dear Roadrunners,

Over the past several years, we have seen multiple personnel changes in the critical role of provost, which has understandably led to frustration with disruptions that the turnover has caused. It’s clear from my extensive conversations with faculty and staff members in recent weeks that our community is weary of time-consuming searches and desires continuity, stable leadership and a swift and transparent search process.

Given the extraordinary political and budgetary challenges we face and based on feedback from our community, it is imperative that we take an accelerated approach and immediately launch a transparent, community-driven search for a permanent provost.

Unlike previous searches led by external firms, this one will be facilitated internally, allowing us to complete it on an expedited timeline. And rather than considering candidates in confidential finalist pools, as is often necessitated in firm-led searches, we will publicly announce two to three finalists who will participate in open forums before a final decision is made.

The search committee will be chaired by Chief of Staff Edward Brown and will include representatives from Academic Affairs, the Faculty Senate, the Staff Senate, deans, students and department chairs. The job posting is now open to both internal and external applicants. More details, including a more specific timeline and opportunities for community input, will be shared soon.

I want to express my sincere gratitude to the many faculty members, staff members, students and community members who have provided thoughtful insight. I appreciate your sustained commitment to our mission and the values that keep us moving forward together.

Sincerely,

Janine Davidson, Ph.D.
President
