Workday: Navigating Past, Present, and Future

It’s now been over a year since Metropolitan State University of Denver went live with Workday ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), a comprehensive human resources and financial management system that brought together a wide range of HR (Human Resources) and Finance functionality into a shared platform. With a calendar year under our collective belts, we have now performed most major ERP functions at least once and have learned new tips and tricks with each step.

The project set out to reimagine the business of the University, enabling organizational efficiency and empowering the MSU Denver community to make timely strategic decisions, support our students and core mission, and become one of Colorado’s most desired places to work by implementing an agile, sustainable, and modern system. The runway is long for Workday to provide all the tools, resources, and capacities to allow MSU Denver to fully achieve this goal – but the reimagining has become reality and continues to take shape daily.

As MSU Denver’s ERP Product Manager, I joined the University in late July 2023, seven months after go-live. In that time, I have seen feature enhancements, business process refinement, and a world of firsts (e.g., first W-2s, first open enrollment). In the coming months, we aim to complete many of the stabilization activities on which we’ve focused to date and begin shifting our attention to delivering new capabilities that enhance the tool and your collective experience at MSU Denver. I’m looking forward to adopting brand new features and ways of working that continue to modernize the University.

The Workday project and product team members appreciate the community’s continued insights, as well as your patience while we work through the remaining challenges. We are also hugely appreciative of the University community’s thoughtful feedback submitted as part of the Workday Retrospective process recently highlighted in the Early Bird.

Stay tuned to the monthly Window on Workday for updates on new features, tips for enhancing your user experience, and important announcements. Here’s to another year of Workday accomplishments!
