Open house photoMetropolitan State University of Denver’s former Crew in Blue was reintroduced this semester as the Visit Ambassadors team. Visit Ambassadors is a group of student employees representing a diverse array of academic pursuits. The team represents and promotes all that the University has to offer to prospective and newly admitted students and their guests, serving as the front line for all campus visitors.

The team is supervised by Alysha Rowzee, alumna and visitandevents coordinator with the Admissions team, who used her experience as a student to drive meaningful change.

“We elected to move away from ‘Crew in Blue’ because although the term may be recognizable on our campus, future employers will likely be more familiar and receptive to the ‘Ambassador’ title,” Rowzee said. “An ambassador, by definition, is ‘a person who acts as a representative or promoter,’ which is exactly what our team does.”

New look

Instead of following a dress code, Visit Ambassadors have more room for self-expression and comfort. In lieu of a uniform, which previously was a branded blue shirt, Visit Ambassadors are required to wear a red “Student Admissions Ambassador” pin.

“Many dress codes have deep roots in misogyny and racism, and I am attempting to use my power as a supervisor to help dismantle these outdated codes and bolster new ideas of what professionalism can look like,” Rowzee explained.

How to partner with the Visit Ambassadors

Any faculty or staff members who are hosting off-campus groups can request Visit Ambassador tour services.

Secondly, new employees are invited to join the regularly scheduled campus tours hosted by Visit Ambassadors. Employees do not need to register and may simply attend any Daily Tour listed on the group’s calendar.
