An Introduction to Course-based Undergraduate Research for All Disciplines

The benefits of undergraduate research for students are well-documented. However, there isn’t capacity for every student to engage in one-on-one mentored research. Furthermore, first generation and underrepresented students are less likely to seek out mentored research opportunities. Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs) helps address this issue of educational equity and ensures that all students have access to undergraduate research. This session will provide an introduction to CUREs, key elements of a CURE, and provide examples of CUREs across disciplines.

How do you strive for excellence in teaching while pursuing your research and service activities and still maintain your sanity? Instead of seeing these as mutually exclusive, learn how to integrate these 3 critical threads/pillars of faculty evaluation. Whether you mentor students in research or embed research or service learning in a course, we will discuss how these are student-focused ways of efficiently weaving these threads together.
