MASTER OF ARTS IN TEACHING: SPECIAL EDUCATION

Thinking about becoming a Special Education Teacher?

This Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program was designed for people who are pursuing a master's degree along with a generalist Special Education license to teach in grades kindergarten through 12th grade. The MAT Special Education program provides candidates with a case-based curriculum designed to prepare candidates to meet the needs of children and adolescents with mild to severe disabilities.

To learn more about applying for this program, please visit our Colorado EL Standards page.

Important Note: Students in all MAT programs must satisfy the requirements in order to earn recommendation for licensure upon successful completion of the program.  Coursework in addition to your degree program may be necessary to meet the EL standards requirements.  Please see an appropriate School of Education faculty advisor to determine how to meet these requirements.

The following advising guide is an unofficial document intended for use in combination with School of Education advising.  Please feel free to download the guide to review program content, and schedule an advising appointment today to discuss this program.

Please note that this guide may not reflect the requirements for all catalog years or all versions of these programs.  It is important that you speak with an advisor in the School of Education before planning or registering for courses for this program.
