Jacob Matthew Thompson’s life was cut short when his car collided with a train in downtown Denver. But he gave the gift of life as an organ and tissue donor.
A scholarship in Thompson’s name is available to a student who has lost a family member (parent, sibling, cousin, grandchild, grandparent) who was an organ, tissue or eye donor. Living donors are included. Organ, tissue and eye recipients are also eligible.
To apply, you must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 and demonstrated involvement in community service.
The award is $1,000 for the spring semester.
1. Submit an essay of approximately 250 words that addresses your experience with organ, tissue or eye donation. Please also include additional information about your community service work. Be sure to include name and student ID on the essay as well.
2. Send the essay to Michallee Gallegos at email@example.com no later than Dec. 11 to be considered for a spring scholarship award. If you do not receive an email response after sending your application, call 303-556-5174 for confirmation and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.
3. Eligibility to receive the scholarship will be verified by the MSU Denver Office of Financial Aid; then all qualified applicant essays will be sent to the selection committee. All applicants will be notified when the selection process is finished. Note that the selection committee may not make a decision until late December.
