What’s a NetID?

You may know it as your “ConnectU username, “WinAD username,” “Domain username” or simply your “username.”

To help eliminate confusion and streamline the process by which you manage your login information for multiple accounts, Information Technology Services (ITS) is currently rebranding all MSU Denver usernames as “NetIDs,” or Network Identifiers. Your NetID is the first part of your email address – or everything before the @ symbol – that serves as a personal identifier and allows you access to University computing services including:

  • ConnectU
  • Office 365 (email)
  • Blackboard Learn
  • MSU Denver computers (including student labs)
  • MetroState Wireless
  • TARS (online course exam reservation system)
  • Smarthinking
  • iTunes U
  • Qualtrics
  • VPN (available to faculty and staff by request)
  • Banner Prod (available to faculty and staff by request)
  • Using one NetID for multiple systems simplifies the process by which you manage your password: change it once and it’s changed for all accounts.

As ITS continues to transition all University computing systems to requesting your NetID, you may still see references to “usernames.” For more information, please visit msudenver.edu/accounttypes or contact the ITS Helpdesk.
