Additional Emergency Relief Grant

Covid-19 Relief Funds

The Additional Emergency Relief Grant is a supplemental application-based grant to allow students with immediate and acute needs to request financial assistance.

The Student Care Center has partnered with the office of Financial Aid & Scholarship and will begin accepting applications beginning March 22, 2021. The application will be open as funds last or until May 31, 2021.

The Federal Government has passed legislation which provides funding for institutions of higher education to distribute money directly to students who have experienced financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. MSU Denver has determined two methods to distribute funds. Most of the funding made available to our students is being disbursed directly to students through an Additional Impact Grant based upon eligibility determined by the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships. Students will be contacted directly by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships regarding their eligibility for a direct disbursement, and the amount of disbursement if awarded beginning March 8, 2021.

The second method through which funds are being awarded is an Additional Emergency Relief Grant. While applying for the Additional Emergency Relief Grant application students will also able to receive information from the Student Care Center to receive additional resources. This means, in addition to requesting emergency funds, students can also indicate they are in need of supplemental support including, but not limited to: assistance securing housing, addressing food insecurity, assistance with public benefit applications, including those for unemployment benefits, SNAP and Medicaid, establishing connections with the MSU Denver Counseling Center, Auraria Health Center, and/or the Phoenix Center at Auraria and many more of the services MSU Denver is proud to provide to our students and campus community.

Funds will be distributed to students through an application process as funds last.

To qualify for an Additional COVID-19 Emergency Relief Grant:

  • Students may be eligible for funding if they are a degree-seeking student enrolled in at least one course for the current 2021 spring semester.
  • Students must respond to a few brief questions, including the amount requested and any challenges you might be facing as a result of COVID-19.
  • Grants will be awarded for up to $1,000 or on a case by case basis if amount exceeds $1,000.

If a student is awarded the Additional Emergency Relief Grant the funds can be applied to the student account or a direct reimbursement. All students are welcome to apply for this grant and the Student Care Center and the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will work together with students to assist with their needs
