Job Overview: The Office of Social Work Student Services, Administration and Finance has an opening for a graduate assistant position whose responsibilities are designed to give them experience working closely with undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and academic and student affairs professionals at an urban commuter institution with undergraduate and graduate degrees. Under the supervision of the associate director, this position will provide various student services to individuals across the entire student lifecycle, from recruitment through alumni engagement.

Anticipated Workweek: Varies based on availability and demand. Occasional evening and weekend events based on availability.

Compensation: $14.00/hour


Duties/Responsibilities:

Marketing and Recruiting

  • Attend recruitment events on and off campus (depending on availability) to promote the Social Work programs (Social Work Minor, Bachelor of Science in Social Work Program, and the Master of Social Work Program)
  • Serve on graduate student panels to provide insight into the graduate student experience at MSU Denver (if a MSU Denver student).
  • Help facilitate focus groups with current undergraduate and graduate students to develop marketing materials and messaging.
  • Assist in developing posts for social media accounts.
  • Participate in research and/or data collection aimed to support the strategic goals of the OSWSS team, to include the promotion of inclusiveness as well as the enhancement and support of diversity.  

Admissions

  • Provide admissions information and support to prospective students through email, phone, zoom, group, and in person appointments
  • Assist with prerequisite reviews and degree evaluations to determine eligibility/readiness to enter the programs
  • Process application materials to prepare for review by admissions committees
  • Participate in research and/or data collection aimed to support the strategic goals of the OSWSS team, to include the promotion of inclusiveness as well as the enhancement and support of diversity.  

Advising

  • Hold regular office hours for the purpose of meeting with students in order to provide a range of assistance and advice.
  • Be available for walk-in advising
  • Provide assistance with reviewing student progress and enrollments
  • Participate in research and/or data collection aimed to support the strategic goals of the OSWSS team, to include the promotion of inclusiveness as well as the enhancement and support of diversity.  

Alumni Engagement

  • Support the coordination and implementation of alumni engagement events, activities, and programming
  • Support data management of alumni information
  • Participate in research and/or data collection aimed to support the strategic goals of the OSWSS team, to include the promotion of inclusiveness as well as the enhancement and support of diversity.  

Other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications:

  • Current or accepted graduate student at MSU Denver or University of Colorado Denver
  • Must be able to commit to one full academic year (begins in August)
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Must be willing to learn and grow
  • Must demonstrate strong communication skills
  • Must have ability to work with students one-on-one and in a group setting
  • Must be actively registered and in good standing with enrolled graduate program

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current or incoming graduate student in the Master of Social Work (MSW) or Student Affairs and Higher Education (SAHE) program
  • A bachelor’s degree from MSU Denver
  • Experience working with individuals who are facing crisis (personal, academic)
  • Demonstrated experience providing customer service
  • Experience with Microsoft office, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with time management of multiple roles/campaigns/initiatives
