Fully Online Delivery Option

The Department of Social Work offers the Bachelor of Science in Social Work and Master of Social Work Programs fully online.  This exciting opportunity allows the Department to reach outside the Denver Metro area to Colorado‚Äôs rural communities and beyond.  The fully online delivery option also increases access for students balancing work, care-taking, and other responsibilities with school.

Fully online delivery means you will be taking your courses in an online format which will include both synchronous and asynchronous activities:

  • Asynchronous activities are activities, readings, assignments, videos, and other tasks required in your course that you do on your own time while meeting the expected due dates and times. Synchronous activities are activities that occur with others at a scheduled time but that are accessible to you online. This means that you will use meeting software such as Zoom, Skype, Google Hangout, and/or other platforms to communicate and meet with your class and instructor at a specified time.
  • Synchronous activities may be meeting with your whole class and the instructor, meeting individually with your instructor, meeting with a group of students, or meeting with one other student in order to complete required course expectations. Synchronous learning in online education has been demonstrated to increase student outcomes, sense of community, and overall student satisfaction with online learning. When you are in an online course, please see course notes to check synchronous requirements for your online course.

Applying to the Fully Online Delivery Option Format

If you are an applicant, you will indicate your preference for the fully online delivery option when you apply.  If you are a continuing student and wish to switch to the fully online delivery option, you will submit your request to the Office of Social Work Student Services, Administration and Finance.  Students who are accepted into the fully online delivery option, will have a guaranteed spot in all fully online social work courses required by the BSSW/MSW Program.

Admission into the fully online delivery option format is not guaranteed, and requests from out of state are considered on a case by case basis.

Students should keep in mind, that while the Department of Social Work can guarantee all social work courses will be in an online format, we cannot guarantee prerequisites or other courses outside of the Department of Social Work will be.  We recommend that students discuss their options with an advisor in the Office of Social Work Student Services, Administration and Finance.
