Ms. Amy Middleton is the Director of the Office of Social Work Student Services, Finance, and Administration (OSWSS) at the Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) Department of Social Work. Over the past 18 years at MSU Denver she has been dedicated to increasing community access to higher education. As the founding director of OSWSS, Ms. Middleton has developed and led the team through significant growth and change from creating a vision and mission statement to developing strategic goals and objectives. With her extensive experience in public higher education and her commitment to support diversity and inclusion across campus, she has developed innovative systems and programming that supports students’ wellness and success. Ms. Middleton has developed advising and mentoring processes which are congruent with the University’s values. She has led the OSWSS team to meet the needs first generation students, students of color, and all students from diverse backgrounds.

As a Director of OSWSS at a Hispanic Serving Institution, Ms. Middleton created and implemented student-centered programming across the entire student lifecycle, from admissions to alumni engagement. As a first-generation college student herself, Ms. Middleton understands the importance of programming and services that are inclusive and supportive of a wide array of student needs. Her practice is grounded in responsibility centered budget management (4.5 million per year), integrated operations, and strategic enrollment management practices. During her time as the Director, enrollment in the graduate program applications have increased an average of 20% each year, admissions rates average 67%, and strategic graduate and undergraduate enrollment goals have been met (with an average increase of 14% and 5%, respectively) The success of her team has resulted in increased enrollment of students from diverse backgrounds, to include fist-generation and students of color. Due to her department’s recruitment activities, enrollment consistently meets projected rates with retention rates steadily increasing each year. 

Ms. Middleton’s model of leadership and collaboration is being shared with other Departments to strengthen their development and sustainability of thriving and fiscally self-sustaining graduate programs. She has developed accurate predictive analytic enrollment tools essential for short- and long-term strategic planning and resource allocation. She manages a budget of over 4.5 million annually and is dedicated to bridging student, faculty, and staff needs with enrollment and budget management practices. Ms. Middleton’s leadership and business model has resulted in her being an invited speaker to several university partners and at national conferences.  Her guidance and leadership support other developing graduate programs at MSU Denver and the development of University-wide systems for graduate programming and student support.

She is a proud alumna of MSU Denver with Bachelor of Art degree with a concentration in Art History, Theory and Criticism and has a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership degree from Colorado State University Global Campus.

I have been working in the field for 28 years. I have focused on children, adolescents and families. I have been a supervisor and administrator in a variety of settings. My expertise is in supervising Social Workers and Interns, training people in using Solution Focused Brief Therapy and in Suicide Prevention.


Biography

Susie Ryder, LCSW, LAC, MAC is the Director of Field Education at Metropolitan State University of Denver.  She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Oberlin College.  She received her Master of Social Work Degree at Smith College School for Social Work.  She worked for 7 years at Cleo Wallace Centers in various positions including Inpatient Social Worker, Residential Clinician, Inpatient Manager and Clinical Director.  Susie then continued her work with children, adolescents and families at Mental Health Partners for 16 years.  At Mental Health Partners, she was the Solution Focused Therapy trainer for the center for several years.  Her most recent job at Mental Health Partners was as the Senior Program Manager for the Prevention/Intervention and School Based Programs in the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain School Districts with oversight of 35 therapists.  She has been a Faculty Field Advisor, Admissions Reader, Integrative Seminar co-leader and Lecturer in the Continuing Education for Advanced Clinician program at Smith College School for Social Work. At MSU Denver, she has been an Associate Director of Field Education and a Clinical Field Faculty prior to her current role as Director of Field Education. She currently serves on the board of a Suicide Prevention program for adolescents and offers presentations in Boulder county on this topic.

Bailee Bannon Murray is a Colorado native who is thrilled to have the opportunity to work with MSU Denver Social Work students! She received her B.S. in Human Development from Colorado State University in Fort Collins in 2010 and an M.A. in Student Affairs and Higher Education from University of Colorado - Colorado Springs in 2013.

Bailee has experience at a variety of public and private institutions in various student affairs roles and has a passion for supporting students while they pursue their educational goals. She joined the Department of Social Work in 2014 and has enjoyed being a part of the continued development of the Office of Social Work Student Services (OSWSS).

In her free time, Bailee enjoys reading, going to concerts, skiing, and nature walking with friends and family.

Amanda is interested in work with under-served communities and promoting access to educational opportunities. She has a passion for field education within social work programs.


Biography

Amanda Campbell, MSW, LCSW earned both her BA in Psychology and MSW from the University of Denver.  Over the course of her career, she has worked in many settings including in residential treatment with adolescent girls, as a clinical vocational counselor for adults with disabilities and spent many years in the youth development space as a counselor/case manager, volunteer recruiter and program director for Denver Urban Scholars. She also worked as a social worker at Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center and Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children. A consistent theme throughout her career has been advocating for access to services for underserved populations.

Amanda came to MSU Denver in 2013 and has served in multiple roles including affiliate Faculty Field Liaison, Clinical Field Faculty and currently, Assistant Director of Field Education – Placement Development and Support. Amanda is passionate about supporting social workers in their educational journeys and professional development. In addition to helping students navigate the field education program, she provides supervision to social work interns and social workers seeking licensure in the state of Colorado.

Outside of work, you will find her pounding the pavement in training for her next running race, exploring the mountains with her husband and two kids.

After working in both the higher education and social work fields for over 10 years, Claire combined her interests and joined the Department of Social Work at MSU Denver. Originally from Chicago, Claire received her BS in Communication Studies from Ball State University and her MA in Counseling Psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She describes herself as a seeker who is always learning, and finds that working in a university environment allows her to support others who have similar passions. In her free time, Claire can be found reading, doing genealogy, and drinking good coffee.

Liz De La Rosa is a First-Generation, Immigrant, Latina who grew up in Five Points Denver and graduated from North High School set off to embark on her college journey at the University of Denver. She received BS degrees in Spanish, Sociology, and Communications. She then returned to her community and worked for Mi Casa Neighborhood Resource Center at North High School as the Post-Secondary Success Coordinator and Family Liaison. She received her master's degree from the Morgridge College of Education in Higher Education Administration with an emphasis in student affairs.  She has over 7 years of experience in the education field and before MSU Denver, she worked at the University of Denver for the department of Access and Transitions.  Her mission is to "give back, encourage diversity, inclusiveness, student retention, and most importantly equity". She describes herself as hardworking but easy going and fun. Outside of work she enjoys time with family, engaging in outdoor activities such as hiking and snowboarding or simply listening to good music.

Kayla is excited to be a team member of this department, knowing the impact that this Department, students included, has in the Social Work community. She enjoys supporting students in their journey to success and also supporting the faculty and staff of the Social Work Department. Kayla grew up in Nebraska (Go Huskers!) but has spent the last 4 years in Colorado. She can be found in the mountains snowboarding, hiking, camping, hammocking, biking, or just enjoying the great outdoors with her family and two silly pups.

Key Areas on the OSWSS-FA Team: Supports the Administrative and Financial Services Coordinator in fiscal reconciliation, assists with onboarding and payroll of affiliate faculty and student employees, supports purchasing and expense reporting for department expenses including professional development, student travel and scholarly research, and provides accounting support for grants administration.


Michael developed a passion for higher education while attending school at MSU Denver, where he earned a B.A. in History, and is thrilled to be a part of the process that brings the same passion to the students and faculty he serves in the Department of Social Work. He brings four years of higher education experience from the University of Denver where he worked for the department of Gifts Administration and Records Management. Michael enjoys spending watching Disney movies and West Ham United FC, spending time with his two cats, and trivia based on The Office (TV show).

Key Areas on the OSWSS-FA Team: Supports Director in fiscal management of department, manages onboarding of affiliate faculty, student research assistants and graduate teaching assistants, coordinates travel and expense reporting for faculty and department staff, and provides additional support to Assessment Coordinator, Online Coordinator, MSW Program Director, BSSW Program Director and Chair.


Melissa brings a background in nonprofit and community development and higher education to her role in the Department of Social Work. She thrives supporting the infrastructure of a robust organization with the opportunity to collaborate with and support a huge variety of administrators and faculty members. In addition to being a multitasker at work, she co-chairs a chaotic and beautiful family of 9 at home, including an undergraduate student at MSU Denver. Melissa is most at home on roadtrips to see our amazing national parks and in spirited discussions about social justice.

Caitlin is an alumna of MSU Denver, graduating with a B.A. in Promotional Strategy Design. She also holds an M.S. in Higher Education Administration from Southern New Hampshire University. Caitlin got her start in the Department as a student worker during her undergraduate degree and developed a passion for higher education and supporting faculty, staff, and students. A lifelong learner, she is delighted to be working in higher education helping other reach their educational goals. Her work focuses on the first half of the student life cycle at both the undergraduate and graduate level, from marketing and recruiting to helping to coordinate and providing support during the admissions process. Caitlin enjoys reading, attending live theatre, and playing tabletop games with family and friends in her free time.

She spent last year teaching English in Spain after working for four years in non-profits empowering youth experiencing poverty to reach their educational goals. Originally from New Mexico, Rachael received her BA in Cultural Anthropology from University of Colorado at Boulder. Jenae is a current student MSU Denver student pursuing a Masters in Social Work. After calling Auraria Campus a second home for the past five years while pursuing an undergraduate degree, she decided to remain on campus for her graduate studies due to the love for campus environment and unique student population. In the past two years, she has worked with clients and peers at the Phoenix Center at Auraria, educating peers on interpersonal violence and assisting those who have experienced interpersonal violence. Born and raised in Denver, CO, Jenae received her BS in Human Services with a concentration in Mental Health Counseling from MSU Denver. In her free time, she enjoys live music, poi dancing, and spending time with her cat, lizards, and husband.

Claire Wiley is a current MSW student at MSU Denver. She is a Colorado native and is excited to join the OSWSS-FA team! She received her BA in Anthropology and Philosophy from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon in 2018, and then became an AmeriCorps VISTA in Omaha, Nebraska in 2019, before returning to Colorado to pursue her masters. She is passionate about working with fellow OSWSS-FA staff in supporting students with their goals and education. In her free time, Claire enjoys reading, playing with her cats, cooking, and going on long walks at her local park.
