Field Placement Process and Options in the MSW Program

December 6, 2018

Did you know the Department of Social Work at MSU Denver has a dedicated Office of Field Education? This office:

  • Works with students to secure a field placement in their area of interest
  • Interviews and provides training to agencies where our students are placed
  • Ensures there is a good fit between agencies and students to make the field placement a successful learning and working environment for everyone involved

The field placement process is completed the spring before you start your field placement in the fall. If you are accepted to the MSW Program:

  • Full time students – will begin the process after admission in spring 2019 prior to starting field placement in fall 2019
  • Part time students – will begin the process in spring 2020 prior to starting field placement in fall 2020

The Office of Field Education does allow for employment based field placements. If you are already working in social work, or have a need for a paid position while doing your field placement, you can discuss this option during the field placement process after admission.

We have relationships with over 500 agencies throughout the state of Colorado, including:

  • Departments of Human Services in multiple counties
  • Public School districts throughout the state
  • The Phoenix Center at Auraria
  • Family & Intercultural Resource Center
  • Servicios de la Raza
  • Longmont Community Justice Partnership
  • Parkview Medical Center
  • Boulder County Public Health
  • Gender Identity Center of Colorado
  • And many more!
