Social Work as a Career
November 16, 2018
When picking a graduate program, you may worry about what comes after graduation, if you will be able to get a job in your field, and what your career will look like. For our graduates, the future looks bright due to key factors such as:
- Social work is a growing field. From 2016 to 2026, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that employment of social workers will increase by 16%, well above the 7% average growth rate for all professions.
- MSU Denver MSW Program graduates are in high demand. 35% of our graduates are hired by their field placement agency. On average, within 2 months or less of graduation 77% of our graduates have jobs in social work, and by 3 to 6 months post-graduation, that number is up to 93%!
- Our graduates work in many different areas of social work. According to a 2018 survey of MSW Program alumni, our graduates work in such areas as Mental Health or Community Mental Health (42.53%), Child Welfare (21.84%), Family Services (18.39%), School Social Work (17.24%), Health/Medical (16.09%), Alcohol, Drug, or Substance Abuse (11.49%) and more. (Note – alumni could select more than one area when indicating what areas of social work they currently work in).
No matter where your passions lie, the MSW Program at MSU Denver will prepare you for a fulfilling career in the field of social work.
