The MSU Denver Difference
September 27, 2018
Here in the MSU Denver Department of Social Work, we are proud to offer educaiton that is accessible, exceptional, and affordable. Today, we want to highlihgt some of the awards, initiatives, and offices that make MSU Denver different.
Best for Vets
The Military Times has included MSU Denver on its list of “Best Colleges for Veterans” for several years running. As of 2018, we are the second highest rated school in Colorado and within the Denver-Metro area. The ranking is the most comprehensive school-by-school assessment of veteran and military student success rates. Becoming a Hispanic Serving Institution
In 2007, MSU Denver launched the goal of achieving the federal designation of Hispanic Serving Institution. To achieve this goal, MSU Denver needed to increase its Latinx student enrollment from 13% to 25%. As of Fall 2017, we have reached this goal with over 26% Latinx student enrollment! Colorado has one of the largest Latinx populations in the U.S., and achieving HSI status will open the doors to increased federal funding that will help enhance our ability to serve all students.
The Center for Equity and Student Acheivement
The Center for Equity and Student Achievement’s (CESA’s) mission is to support and educate students throughout their MSU Denver journey and advocate for a campus community that promotes equity and inclusion. In support of that mission, CESA houses many programs and centers to support our students, including:
- The Center for Multicultural Excellence and Inclusion – empowers students of color through mentorship, academic support, and programming to thrive at MSU Denver, coming fall 2018!
- The Immigrant Services Program – an academic and social support program that aims to increase enrollment, retention, and graduation of undocumented, DACA, immigrant, and refugee students.
- The LGBTQ Student Resource Center – a tri-institutional office available to all students for exploring issues of sexual orientation and gender identity.
- Veteran and Military Student Services – helping students maximize their veterans education benefits, with the transition from military to student life, and more.
