Why Should I Present my Work?
Presenting your service learning work demonstrates passion, initiative, and curiosity. These are all qualities employers, communities, and graduate programs look for when recruiting new talent. Therefore, we strongly encourage students to present your service learning project at both professional and student conferences. Additionally, by engaging in your service learning course with the intent of sharing your work, you will gain a much richer and more satisfying service learning experience!
Present at MSU Denver conferences
Public speaking is one of the most essential skills a student can develop during their time at MSU Denver. MSU Denver hosts several student conferences throughout the school year in order to provide students with opportunities for professional development and deeper scholarly inquiry:
The Undergraduate Research Conference is MSU Denver’s most popular and widely attended conference. Hosted by the Applied Learning Center, we are proud to have had more than 500 attendees and nearly 200 presenters each year. If your project includes research or scholarly activity that contributes to the profession, encourage your students to present at our annual spring conference. If your project includes a product (such as art or industrial design), performance (such as theater), or a presentation of a non-research project (similar to a "TED" talk), encourage your students to present at our Student Impact and Innovation Showcase.
International Undergraduate Journal for Service-Learning, Leadership, and Social Change is dedicated to providing undergraduate students a venue to discuss their service-learning projects and experiences.
Michigan Journal of Community Service-Learning is an open-access journal focusing on research, theory, pedagogy, and other matters related to academic service-learning, campus-community partnerships, and engaged/public scholarship in higher education.
Undergraduate Journal of Service Learning and Community-Based Research is a refereed, multidisciplinary online undergraduate journal publishing intellectual and reflective work on service learning and community-based research. It is open to undergraduate students in the U.S. and across the globe. The journal is published through the Penn State Berks Center for Service Learning and Community-Based Research.
